WINTON SCHOLARSHIPS 2023: EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FOR MICHAELMAS TERM 2023 ENTRY

PhD Studentships in Physics of Sustainability, Department of Physics, University of Cambridge

Limit of tenure: 3.5 years

Advances in fundamental physics have the potential to address the demands of a growing population, rising greenhouse gas emissions, and strained natural resources. The Winton Programme for the Physics of Sustainability will support outstanding people with radical ideas that will bring practical solutions to these problems. The research will be primarily in the Department of Physics, however interdisciplinary activities with other University Departments is highly encouraged.

The Fund Managers of the Winton Programme invite applications for October 2023 Scholarships in the area of Physics of Sustainability. Awards will provide for all University and College fees due, maintenance at the current UK Research Council level (£17,668 per annum in 2022/23), and a contribution to research expenses. Part-support from other funding sources is permitted.

Applicants should complete an Expression of Interest form and send it to Dr Lata Sahonta, Programme Manager of the Winton Programme (sls55@cam.ac.uk) by 5 December 2022 to express an interest in applying for a Winton Scholarship.

Applicants are required to also submit a standard application to the University via the Applicant Portal - see https://www.postgraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/

Closing date for Expression of Interest: 5 December 2022

All applicants who have submitted an Expression of Interest form by 5 Dec 2022 will be invited to submit a 2-page Research Proposal in collaboration with their chosen PhD supervisor. The deadline for these Research Proposal submissions is 10 February 2023.

5 December 2022 - submission of Expression of Interest

6 December 2022 to 9 February 2023 - Research Proposal writing period

10 February 2023 - submission of completed Research Proposal with chosen PhD supervisor

17 March 2023 - Notification of award to applicants

October 2023 - Winton Programme 2023 Scholarships and PhD study begin in Cambridge
