An introduction to patents followed by a debate as to whether patents help or hinder innovation

 

A Winton teatime discussion hosted by Dr Anwar Gilani, Patent Attorney at Venner Shipley. Anwar has a BSc in Chemistry and PhD in organic chemistry and has many years experience in patenting across a wide range of technologies including organic semiconductors, clean technology, medical devices and pharmaceuticals.

Anwar will provide a brief introduction to what a patent is followed by a discussion of how patents are used, including topical aspects of patents such as “patenting life”, pharmaceutical patents, patent “trolls”, smartphone patent battles and the debate as to whether patents help or hinder innovation.
